What can I say about today that I haven’t said about yesterday … or the day before?  Not much really.  We’re still rockin’ and rollin’ and pitchin’ and swayin’ our way to Nuku Hiva.  Winds of 35-40 knots and seas 10-15 feet (3-5m) … that was the order of the day.  The NavChannel described the sea state as “rough mounting seas” … whatever that means.

When he made his noon announcement, Captain B said to expect conditions to remain the same for the next few hours, but that things would improve after that.  HAH!  Conditions got worse IMHO and we even went through some bands of heavy rain squalls in the afternoon.  Frankly, have not seen much indication of improvement … and it is now 8:00p.  The travails of winter travel in the Pacific.

All in all a quiet day … no veranda time for me … sniff, sniff.  I picked up a needlepoint kit from the social hostess this morning.  But when I went to work on it this afternoon there was no needle in the kit!!!  I’ll have to go back and see Erica tomorrow to see if she has some spares.

All in all, not the best day at sea … but, can’t expect every day to be perfect now, can we?  No use dwelling on it.  Instead, here are some stats from the NavChannel at 8:00p: Distance sailed from Honolulu … 1,078 NM; distance from Nawiliwili … 968.4 NM; distance to Nuku Hiva … 1,217.7 NM.

  1. Oh, how long since you had some time for handwork!? Although knitting in bumpy seas might be difficult

  2. Yep, you have to go with the flow. The weather is always out of our control...dang it. We are headed for Yuma today. We have been boondockjng for four days with 5 other couples. AZ weather is finally getting back to normal. Safe travels. Hope those waves calm down for y'all.
