Intercontinental Hotel — Miami, Florida
Temps: 59F (15C) / 46F (8C) … in Houston // 81F (27C) / 61F (16C) … in Miami
In the span of two short hours, we left wintry temperatures behind for a summer-like day in Miami, Florida. And what a busy day it turned out to be ... starting shortly after 3:00a when, too excited to sleep, we got up and got going.
Despite a short night of sleep, we are bright eyed and bushy tailed as we
get settled into our seats aboard UA1614. Let’s get this show on the road.
How do I tell the story of our day as succinctly as possible? Let’s see if this works …
A two hour flight from Houston … losing an hour in the process; a heavy rain squall as our aircraft taxied to the terminal at MIA … ending just before we left the airport to pick up our rental … gorgeous weather for the rest of the day; a bunch of last-minute shopping … including a couple of bottles of wine to enjoy on our veranda aboard Insignia; BREAK
A drive into downtown Miami … checking in at the Intercontinental … selected (?!?) as “guest of the day” and upgraded to the 33rd floor with access to Club Intercontinental … ours is not to question why … we gracefully accept … woo hoo; BREAK
Love the cityscape from high on up at the Intercontinental.
A drive back to the airport to return the rental … in crazy rush hour traffic no less; a ride on the Metrorail and the Metromover to get us back downtown … the latter being a free, automated (driverless) people mover train; a stroll over to Bayside Marketplace for dinner … Hard Rock Café … a first for me … really enjoy the fajitas; and finally a stroll back to the hotel … where Mui has already crashed and burned … and I will follow suit as soon as I upload this blog post.
The glitzy view from our table on the terrace at Hard Rock Café.
There you have it — the short story of our day. It will have to do.

Enjoy your adventure. Tomorrow we leave for a much shorter cruise and I am still very nervous and afraid the most important thing whatever it is will be forgotten. Congratulations, and happy sailing. judy weisman
