Day 2: At Sea

At Sea — Caribbean Sea
Temps: 76.5F (24.7C) @ UTC 2:30a (ship’s time 9:30p)

Despite a 45-minute delay getting underway — due to port traffic, the captain said — Insignia sailed from Miami last night.  The skyline was a-twinkle behind us as the ship pointed its bow towards the Atlantic … and we had a perfect view of it from our aft veranda.

Embarkation Day

Farewell Miami …. until we meet again in July.

Today was a mixed-weather day.  We started out with sunshine and clear skies, and calm seas.  Around 1:00p, we watched a storm moving in towards us … and then it became overcast and we got some rain.  The waves grew in size a bit — large wavelets was the way the NavChannel described them … about 2 feet.  There is a noticeable sway, but nothing really bothersome.

Sea days are normally very relaxing, but not today … at least not for us.  We put off getting settled into our cabin yesterday, so we spent most of today unpacking and finding a place for the myriad of items we brought with us.  The good news, everything is stowed.  We will use another day at sea to refine how things are organized, but I think we’re in good shape for the next six months.

Embarkation Day

the Intercontinental is the shorter building almost dead center.

Our day was not just about getting settled, however.  We had a couple of social engagements, too.  First, at 10:30a, was an informal meet and greet with fellow-passengers who participated on the CruiseCritic roll call thread for our voyage.  This meeting was for a mix of segmenters and RTWers, and we got to say hello and put faces with names for a few people.  We didn’t stay long, however, as Oceania had scheduled a mimosa cocktail party for the RTWers at 11:00a.  This was our opportunity to meet the captain and some of the ship’s staff who will be taking good care of us on this voyage.

Insignia is currently sailing towards our first port of call — George Town, Grand Cayman.  We plan to meet up with Sonia and Boris and go snorkeling … if the weather is nice, that is … at the moment there are thunderstorms forecasted.

[Sorry … no photos from today … the camera took a rest while we worked at settling in.]
