Going Public

Advanced RV Resort — Houston, Texas

I’ve been quietly working away at a private blog for our RTW voyage almost since we booked it back in July 2015.  I shared it with one friend who was intrigued by what we were doing and our planning process.  One or two RTWers who expressed an interest in blogging/journaling themselves also received a link to get a glimpse of what I was doing … with the encouragement to keep things simpler than I tend to do.  But that was it.  No one else had an inkling of the existence of this blog … not our families … not even our travel companions … sorry guys; just wasn’t ready to say anything about it!

I didn’t publicize this blog until now because I was on the fence about committing to it until just a few days ago.  We have friends and family who would like to follow along on our RTW adventure, however, and I didn’t think posting photos on Facebook alone was going to cut it.  So here goes … an open invitation to anyone who wants to read along as we make our way around the world.

Readers of my other blogs know well that I am often way behind on my travel stories.  This is mostly because I prefer to enjoy the “moment” of our travels.  Who wants to sit indoors and write when there is a whole world to explore just outside the door?  Certainly not me.

So, how on earth do I anticipate staying on top of this blog on the RTW?  For one thing, I am making no promises that I will do so … I will try my best … that’s all I can commit to.  It will help that the posts will likely be mostly text — definitely a different format from my other blogs.  A summary story of our day will have to suffice as I don’t anticipate having much spare time on my hands to process photos to my liking.  When I can, I will try to add a few images, but internet connectivity speeds will have a say in that … as well in how often or how quickly the posts are uploaded.

I have added two subscription methods — follow by email and RSS for those who like to use newsfeeds.  For most, the first alternative will be the preferred method.  As for RSS feed followers … you know who you are and you know what to do ;-)

If I fail in this endeavor … well, just be happy for me that I am out and about exploring this world of ours.

  1. So very glad that you are doing this blog. I think your thought to use more text and not let photo processing keep you from blogging is a very good idea. I might even try that myself! I, for one, want to have the daily (or weekly) or whatever, thrill of knowing where you are, imagining what it is like and looking you up on Google Earth. Kind of like NORAD where's Santa. "Where are Erin and Mui today?!" Photos can be filled in later, but the story of the voyage is every bit as important as your magnificent photography. Bon Voyage! I can't wait.

  2. You need not be sorry Chronicler, blog on unrepentant.
Having lived through the entire experience, last thing we needed was a review. (Not exactly double the fun ;)
The trip itself? It's going to be a wondrous experience.
Glad you're along for the ride Sue!

  5. Thank goodness you're doing this and friends and family can follow our journey too, and I can concentrate on tours, geometry, Spanish, etc. Can't wait to see what music you and Mui find that can possibly match the Russian chorus in 90° North.

  8. Any small text summary will be fine. Even a hi we are here and having fun will do. Thanks ahead for whatever you find time to post. Short and sweet is good, only stories when you feel bored, which won't be many. Enjoy the Adventure!!!

  11. It will be a trip of a lifetime, I am sure. Can't wait to follow you on this adventure. I hope one day to do something similar. Thank you in advance for blogging about your trip - it will be fun to read but also can serve as a trip idea/planner for my future trips. It would be useful if you could share at some point (in the blog or offline) general cost of each leg of the trip. Thank you! And have lots of fun!
