Traveling's not something you're good at. It's something you do. Like breathing.

A pink sunrise gave way to on and off rain the rest of the day. Good thing I did not settle myself on the veranda as I would have been soaked in no time in the sometimes-driving rain. On the Deck 5 promenade, however, I got to enjoy the cool breezes and the downpours that veiled the seascape … all without getting wet. In between the bands of rain, I was rewarded with rainbows that invited me to go in search of a pot of gold. I resisted the temptation except to do a couple of laps for exercise.
Gaining an hour overnight did wonders to rejuvenate us. Early breakfast at the Waves Grill was crowded — mostly newbie-segmenters fighting jet lag. In a few days they will have adjusted and the Waves Grill will once again be mostly-deserted in the early hours. I am glad we stayed to eat there instead of waiting for the Terrace to open at 7:00a. Joseph, who organized tomorrow’s excursion, found us at the grill to pass on the time to meet our group of 12 at Baristas tomorrow morning.
I was on the Deck 5 promenade the entire afternoon, getting caught up on the journal. At this pace, I just might be able to polish off a few posts for the blog on the sea day after tomorrow.
At some point, we went to talk to Jennifer to make some changes to our 2018 cruising plans. Instead of going to Japan/China next year, we’re going to take a segment of the 2018 RTW … from Cape Town, South Africa to Singapore. We’ll add some time in Africa before the cruise and do a land-based tour in Myanmar after we spend a few days in Singapore post-disembarkation.
We don’t usually attend the Captain’s Welcome Aboard Party, but we did so tonight. Not only was it a nice change of pace, but we also got a chance to welcome Juan Carlos to Insignia. JC was the Executive Concierge on our 2015 Nautica cruise. He is onboard until Diego returns from vacation. It’s always nice to see a familiar face joining us.
Having arranged to have dinner with the Gelmans after the party, we sat with them for cocktails and the introduction of the senior officers. Then we adjourned to the Grand Dining Room for dinner. It was nice to hear about what they did in Singapore since we all went our separate ways these past few days. Afterwards, we returned to the cabin to find a box of Belgian chocolates on the bed … a gift from O to RTWers. Yummy.
Tomorrow we’re in Phuket. I expect it to be a relaxing day on the boat tour we have joined. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy the veranda for a while before calling it a night.
